7TH LATIN AMERICAN DUTY FREE ZONES CONFERENCE

More than 16 countries from Latin America and Europe will participate in the 7th Latin American Duty Free Zones Conference, to take place in Monterrey, Mexico from September 16 - 19, where they will discuss the topic: "Theory and Practice of the Duty Free Zones in the 21st Century."

The 7th conference will integrate four principle activities:

  • 2 Keynote Conferences
    • “Economic integration and development of foreign commerce in Latin America," presented by Mr. Enrique Iglesias, President of the International Development Bank.
    • “Foreign Commerce in the Economic Reactivation of Mexico's Economy," presented by Lic. Fernando Canales, Secretary of the Economy of Mexico

DURATION OF THE CAN-ARGENTINA, CAN-BRAZIL, ECUADOR-PARAGUAY AND ECUADOR-URUGUAY AGREEMENTS EXTENDED TO DECEMBER 31, 2003
Pursuant to Executive Decree No. 134, published in Official Registry No. 25 on February 29 of this year, the duration of the tariff trade preferences afforded by the following Complementary Economic Agreements is extended until December 31, 2003: No. 48 between the Andean Community and Argentina; No. 39 between the Andean Community and Brazil; No. 30 between Ecuador and Paraquay; and, No. 28 between Ecuador and Uruguay. This signifies that the products specified in the above agreements, equally those for export as those for import, will continue to benefit from their respective reduced tarrif rates.
